While this may seem like an insignificant task, or even a pointless one, making your bed each morning will start your day off right. It promotes tidiness, productivity and research has shown it can even improve your overall mood going forward with your day. Returning to a neatly made bed in the evening can also promote calmer, more rested sleep.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day! Drinking water and staying hydrated ensures that you not only maintain balanced body fluid to support proper kidney function, but it also keeps bowel function normal and improves the quality and texture of skin.
Connect with Others
Now more than ever it is important to not feel alone. In a time where social distancing and staying at home is encouraged, staying connected with friends, family and loved ones will curb feelings of isolation and stress. People in recovery thrive on social connection with peers and others in recovery, and it is vital to maintain these connections even if they can not be in-person.
Pay Attention to Moments of Joy
Often, it is easy to be swept up in bad news, negativity and feelings of hopelessness. When times seem to rough or holding you down, it is helpful to practice gratitude and really appreciate the moments that bring you joy.
Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness practices, such as yoga, meditation, mindful breathing or reiki can help you focus on the present moment, and address feeling and emotions as they arise.
