What Is Outpatient Rehab?
Outpatient rehab is a type of treatment program for alcohol addiction, drug abuse, mental health disorders, and dual-diagnosis disorders. Unlike residential or inpatient rehab, you don’t need to reside within the treatment facility during outpatient rehab. Therefore, it is less restrictive, however, you don’t have the 24/7 support and structure of residential rehab.
Most clients reside at home during the course of outpatient treatment. However, you can also live in a sober living or mental health housing program throughout outpatient care. This is a great option for those with unstable housing or home environments not conducive to recovery.
In addition, our outpatient rehab in Massachusetts offers different levels of care. That way, you can gradually build your skills as you step down from a higher level of care to lower ones.
Our Outpatient Massachusetts Rehab Programs
At Lake Avenue Recovery, we offer different outpatient rehab programs to meet you where you are in your recovery. Across all levels of care, you can expect the same high-quality treatment and evidence-based therapies.
The following are the programs we offer at the outpatient level:
High-Intensity Outpatient Treatment
Our high-intensity outpatient treatment program is the highest level of outpatient rehab we offer. During day treatment, you get about 6-8 hours of programming per day. Most day treatment programs occur for 5 days per week.
Throughout day treatment, you’ll attend a mix of individual and group sessions. Your sessions will cover a broad range of topics and therapies. This will give you the skills you need to prevent relapses, manage mental health symptoms, and thrive outside of treatment programs.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers a similar program as day treatment. However, during IOP, you’ll only be in the program for about 3-4 hours per day. This allows you to transition from a high level of outpatient care as you get back to everyday life in recovery.
IOP programs are great for those who have completed day treatment or people with responsibilities that prevent them from getting treatment. With the flexibility of IOP programs, you can continue to work, attend school, or care for your family while you get treatment.
For even more flexibility, we also offer an evening IOP program.
Evening IOP
Our evening IOP is for clients who cannot attend IOP during the day. You’ll still get the same level of care, except the schedule allows you time during the day for other responsibilities in your life.
Just like all other levels of outpatient rehab, it is important that you have a safe and stable home environment to attend evening IOP. This is because you’re still in a vulnerable stage of your recovery and need to be free from triggers when you aren’t attending program.
You are not alone. You deserve to get help.
Lake Avenue Recovery is an industry leader in addiction treatment in Massachusetts. Our team of top medical experts specialize in dual diagnosis treatment and are committed to ensuring that each patient is treated as an individual. Call us today, we’re available 24/7.
How Do I Know I'm a Good Fit for Outpatient Rehab?
Our outpatient rehab in Massachusetts works well for people who have already completed higher levels of care but aren’t quite ready to conclude addiction treatment. A good candidate for going to outpatient rehab will meet these requirements:
- Clinically ready to move on from inpatient or residential treatment services
- Needs a flexible schedule to work, go to school, and meet family obligations while also attending treatment
- Has a stable home environment and resources outside of outpatient care
- Needs minimal oversight to stay sober during treatment
- Requires continuing care to build recovery and life skills to thrive outside of treatment programs
Our Outpatient Rehab Therapies
At Lake Avenue Recovery, we offer several types of therapy during our Massachusetts outpatient rehab programs, including:
- Adventure Therapy: Talk therapy and other forms of counseling are among the most effective ways to treat addiction and mental health disorders. However, some people need a place to practice their coping skills for stress and a way to build self-confidence. During adventure therapy, we combine activities with therapy for a well-rounded, hands-on, and fun recovery experience.
- Trauma Therapy: Many people with an addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders have experienced trauma in their past. Thus, it’s important to treat these underlying issues during outpatient rehab in order to heal and recover fully.
- Individual Therapy: While most outpatient programming is conducted in group sessions or psychoeducational courses, it is also vital to check in with a one-to-one therapist. That way, you can manage the unique issues that are holding you back from recovering. You can also build upon your coping skills and work on personal problems that you can’t share in group sessions.
- Group Therapy: Peer support is a cornerstone of recovery programs. During group therapy, you get the benefits of peer support with the help of a trained therapist. Thus, you learn from your peers and they learn from you under the guidance of a professional therapist.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) also helps with several other behavioral health concerns, including addiction. DBT helps you build skills in four key areas. These areas include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Holistic Therapy: It’s important to address all aspects of your health and wellness during outpatient rehab. For this reason, we offer holistic therapy to improve your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. This may include activities like yoga, acupuncture, exercise, and mindfulness.
Does Insurance Cover Outpatient Rehab?
After the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many insurance carriers began covering some, most, or all of the costs for substance abuse and mental health treatment programs. This is because the ACA considers mental health and substance abuse treatment as an essential health benefit for marketplace plans. As a result, many private insurance companies followed the guidance of the ACA.
However, your insurance plan may vary in terms of what services are covered and how long you’ll be reimbursed for treatment. For instance, you might get coverage for a 30-day program but will need to make up the difference if your program lasts longer.
Fortunately, outpatient rehab programs are generally less expensive than inpatient programs. Therefore, if cost is a barrier for you to get treatment, outpatient rehab can be a viable solution.
